Architecture magazine, Architects’ Journal is hosting a free webinar on door and entrance design. ‘Making an Entrance: fresh thinking in threshold design’ will expire how the design of entrances are a key focus in the experience of buildings – both practically and physiologically. It will look at how entrances have long been an important element in architecture: from ritual doorway design in ancient structures; to the modernist concept of inside/outside space enabled by 20th century glazing technologies; to today’s emphasis on sustainability and security.
It asks: what makes an exceptional threshold design now? Through case studies and expert input – and with a focus on commercial and public buildings – this webinar will:
- Explore critical issues that shape our experience of entry sequence and welcome: from the technical to the sensory, from shelter to wayfinding
- Consider evolving approaches to good threshold design, looking at detail design of entrance portals, lobbies, and reception areas
- Address issues such as material choices, circularity and airtightness
With practical, technical and theoretical insight we’ll explore all the elements that make for a good threshold space – and a successful ‘welcome’ to a building.
The webinar, sponsored by INTRAsystems, takes place on 25 March 1.30-2.30pm. Register here https://events.zoom.us/ev/Atmfh0rWG8vATeDQMYKPhV5QSHleci85rGICfphOtbcr6gy3Ey1w~AlJx93370BvCdhAPnV0gM6ja2VZ8YYpo02i_LF4dTL00J0O1pPKouIWM4w?deliveryName=DM315185
