BSI committee appoints architect and legal expert as chair of construction standards committee

Harry Pangli, new chair of (BSI) B/209 General Design and Construction Standards Committee.

An architectural technologist and arbitration expert has been announced as the new chair of the British Standards Institution (BSI) B/209 General Design and Construction Standards Committee.

Harry Pangli, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT), member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, asenior associate member of Academy of Experts and an RIBA chartered Architect will lead the Committee which is responsible for planning and co-ordinating standards relating to national codes of practice and for the design and construction of buildings, for the next three years. Pangli is also currently an architectural expert witness with Expert Architect Limited, where he focuses on construction disputes. He holds an MSc in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution, in addition to his qualifications as a Chartered Architectural Technologist and Architect. 

Pangli has been a BSI Committee member for over seven years, giving him extensive experience of the organisation’s role and process. He also sits on other sector committees, including the Construction Industry Council’s Liability Panel and Alternative Dispute Resolution Board. He is Deputy Chair of the Institute’s Liability Taskforce and a member of the Documents Taskforce.

Commenting on his appointment, Pangli said, “I am pleased to be taking on this important role, at what is a challenging time for the building design and construction sectors.

“The final report of the Grenfell Inquiry has shown that our industry needs to evolve to ensure that we deliver a high quality, safe built environment. Clear, achievable standards are essential to this evolution.

“I look forward to working with colleagues across BSI and the wider sector to deliver this goal and help restore public trust in the industry.”
