Built environment show on net zero opens next week

elementalLondon includes a programme of talks

The UK event for built environmental professionals responsible for shaping the future of sustainable building design, delivery and technology takes place on 19-20 November at Excel in London. Over two days elementalLondon will deliver an exhibition, live demonstrations, a speaker programme and The HAUS – a  a full-scale two storey house designed by architects IF_DO and built using regenerative materials by Natural Building Systems.

"Our show, elementalLONDON, aims to tackle the issues around reduction of both energy and carbon in buildings by bringing the buildings industry together to focus on practical solutions, highlighting the realities on the ground for those who design and build; for those who own and operate the buildings; and for those who supply and install the technology that makes life more comfortable, productive, energy efficient and cost-effective for occupants," says Andrew Gaved, content programme manager at elementalLONDON.

The event is expecting 4,000 visitors, will host 200 exhibitors and industry partners include professional bodies RIBA, CIOB, CIAT and CIBSE. RIBA members will have access to a VIP lounge as well as to a meeting space in the top floor of the HAUS, where they are invited to attend architects workshops run by One Click LCA and the UKGBC.

HAUS demonstrates low carbon design and build techniques

Other highlights from the two-day content programme for architects include:

  • A panel of architects and developers tackling the practical – and financial – challenges to Decarbonising London
  • A RIBA architects’ panel on Building the Future
  • Leading architect Michael Pawlyn on his insights into the quest for sustainability and regenerative design.
  • ASHRAE president Bill McQuade on Healthy Buildings: Designing for Life
  • The government’s Construct Zero Group discussing Designing for Net Zero

“These are times of real change for everyone involved with buildings, with everything from The Future Homes and Buildings Standards to the Building Safety Act to the Warm Homes Fund all demanding a response. Add to that the customers and their expectations for lower carbon and that’s quite a combination to deal with," said Gaved.

"At elemental our aim is to bring the supply chain together, to share insights; to foster ideas; and to plot a way forward. This isn’t a show about construction, it isn’t a show about energy; it isn’t a show about HVAC: it’s a show about making buildings work better – and that depends on the best technology, techniques and most of all the best people."
