In response to the Grenfell Inquiry’s final report, the UK Government published a construction products green paper for consultation. The GAI is continuing to urge all members to respond to this consultation, and to note the 21 May deadline for submissions.
The green paper is a hugely detailed document which sets out proposals for system-wide reform of the construction products sector, the regulatory regime that governs it and the institutions that must fulfil their responsibilities in assuring safe products that can be safely used.
To help all companies in the sector understand the implications of the green paper and formulate their responses, the GAI has published a new technical briefing which includes a clear breakdown of the key proposals and how they could affect the ironmongery industry. Available to everyone, the new technical briefing GAI TB43: The UK Government’s response to the final Grenfell Inquiry Report can be downloaded HERE.
GAI technical and training director Douglas Masterson said: “The proposals outlined in this green paper represent the most significant overhaul of the construction products sector in a generation.
“Its recommendations and proposals will shape our industry for many years to come, so it is vital that everyone in the sector reads the paper and responds to the consultation.”
The construction products green paper details extensive plans to overhaul the regulatory framework, compliance measures and accountability structures that govern construction products, with the aim of ensuring greater safety and reliability across the sector.
The full construction products green paper, consultation details and response mechanism can be accessed at UK Government Construction Product Reform Green Paper.
The GAI is also compiling a consultation response on behalf of the architectural ironmongery and related sectors. As well responding directly to the consultation, GAI members are asked to send copies of their submissions (the system will provide a PDF copy upon submission), or any further comments relating to this consultation, to Douglas Masterson at [email protected]
