Galapagos Lever by Emtek was developed by a computer algorithm capable of generating patterns that mimic the variations seen in nature. A limited series was 3D printed with each handle representing their own variation of The Galapagos Project.

US hardware manufacturer Emtek’s director of design and product innovation has shared his influences behind some of the firm’s creations.

In a recent interview, Will Zhang, talks of how his curiosity for design and interiors was established at an early age, and how now he is inspired by nature, surfing and history and shares how his creative process can look like chaos.

During his time at Emtek, Zhang’s designs have received several awards, including the Interior Design BOY Award 2014, Best of KBIS Award 2020, Architectural Record Best of 2021, Good Design Award 2022, and AN Media Best of Product Award 2022.
