Instinct Hardware celebrates 35th birthday

Architectural hardware manufacturers Instinct Hardware celebrated its 35th anniversary at the end of October.

Founded in 1989 by three friends, Terry Bansal, Ray Chohan and Moh Meharban, Instinct embarked on a journey to create high quality ironmongery made in T316 stainless steel. Originally operating from a 700 sq ft factory, the business has grown substantially over the last 35 years, with the business now residing in a 68,000 sq ft factory in Stirchley.

Over the years, the Instinct team have seen the business become increasingly expert in bespoke ironmongery, stepping in on jobs where the project needs something special, or where regular ironmongery won’t work for a number of reasons.

Sales and marketing director Haq Meharban explains. “1989 was a very different time in terms of wants and needs for ironmongery. It was very much ‘You can have this in satin stainless, satin stainless or satin stainless.’ Things have moved on now and as technology has improved and knowledge builds, we have been able to complete jobs we would never have thought possible in the ‘80’s.

“This anniversary is a celebration of not only the past, but the people here now who work hard to develop new processes and styles. Ironmongery as a field is constantly evolving and with that comes new challenges. It’s our job to overcome these challenges and to keep producing top-quality items to suit the needs of the market.”

The Instinct team celebrated the birthday with a go karting event.
