Clerkenwell Design Week is returning on 19-21 May with a new curated series of large-scale installations called Design Interventions. It will show ideas from emerging and established designers and architects for ideas for innovative structures, to encourage interaction and spark conversations about materials and the built environment.
These site-specific, interactive installations will appear in the parks, streets and green spaces of Clerkenwell, as well as in the festival’s venues. Many of these pop-up structures will provide a place to sit, reflect and connect with others while exploring structural and material concepts.
Two of the Design Interventions selected for this year will be on Clerkenwell Green. The Fountain of Technicolour Beads has been created by Hong Kong-based multi-disciplinary studio One Bite Design. And next to St James’ Church will be The Crinkle-Crankle Bench, a series of half crescent benches crafted from natural stone bricks is designed by architectural practice StudioFolk.
Expanded CDW Awards and new venues
Haberdashers’ Hall will be one of several new additions to CDW’s list of venues which will host the CDW Awards ceremony on 19 May, in partnership with Design Milk. The awards will celebrate furniture, lighting, materials and interior solutions that are shaping the future of design. Interior Hardware (formerly Elements) is the part of the festival dedicated to architectural hardware and finishes.
Across all venues, CDW will feature hundreds of design brands alongside product launches, talks and workshops.
