Lorient interactive training on fire door seals achieves RIBA accreditation

The CPD includes witnessing live fire tests

A new interactive training experience which offers architects and specifiers a behind-the-scenes look at the manufacture and testing of fire door sealing systems has been recognised by RIBA for its training benefits.

Lorient, a manufacturer of high-performance fire, smoke, and acoustic sealing systems, has achieved RIBA CPD accreditation for its new Factory Tour: Fire Door Sealing Systems in Action.

The accreditation recognises the educational value of Lorient’s immersive factory-based training days, which give professionals a first-hand insight into the design, manufacture, and testing of safety-critical door components.

Based at Lorient’s manufacturing facility in Newton Abbot, Devon, the tour includes guided visits to production areas, alongside practical demonstrations in a newly renovated showroom. Delegates also witness a live indicative fire test, comparing sealed and unsealed fire doors to illustrate the vital role sealing systems play in fire and smoke containment.

Each tour includes two RIBA-approved CPD sessions, covering key learning areas such as The Importance of Fire Doors & Intumescent Seals and Understanding the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

The Lorient Factory Tour qualifies for four RIBA structured CPD hours, addressing core curriculum topics including Design, Construction & Technology, and Health, Safety & Wellbeing.

“We’re proud to open our doors and share the technical expertise and manufacturing excellence that underpin everything we do," says Kerry Hicks, director of sealing systems. "Our high-performance sealing systems for door assemblies are engineered to protect property and, most importantly, save lives – which is why it’s vital we communicate their critical importance. The RIBA accreditation further recognises the educational value of our CPD sessions and factory tours, highlighting the role they play in supporting safe and compliant building design.”
