Eddie Weir has been inaugurated as the 31st President of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT). Weir is the principal partner and founder of Architectural Design Partnership, a practice based in Holywood, Co. Down, Belfast.
It is the second time Weir has held the post of president – he was also president from 2019-2021. Weir has previously served as vice-president practice, and as chair of the Northern Ireland Region.
Receiving the chain of office at the close of the Institute’s AGM held in Birmingham on 11 November, Weir, who holds office for the next two years, spoke of his ambitions and the busy agenda ahead whilst also working on the implementation of a fit for purpose Strategic and Corporate Plan for 2025-30.
Ambitious agenda
His ambitions and agenda include enhancing and encouraging member engagement across the Institute; promoting the value and expertise Architectural Technology professionals have to offer to the wider general public and policy makers; and continuing to inform and advise CIAT members and affiliates, who in turn will provide their expertise to the benefit of society. There will also be a focus on continuing to broaden the work regarding equality, diversity and inclusivity within the built environment sector.
Speaking of his appointment, Weir said: "It truly is an honour and my privilege to be the 31st President of this incredible Institute and to undertake the position for a second time. We have so much to look forward to as a profession and I can’t wait to continue playing a role in promoting it over the next two years, a time when CIAT turns 60 and celebrates its diamond anniversary."
